Question

CA PTE prepayment column

Have an AR partnership return, never had an California income or activity or partners. NO California partners & NO California income.  Nothing that I can find related to CA.  However on the main screen that has a list of all my partnership clients it is showing a CA PTE Prepayment amount that is quite large in that column.  I’ve printed the input sheets for 2024 (in case a box was checked) & 2025 & ran a search but there is nothing about CA in them or anything about the amount.

When I search all that comes up is how to fix when there is a CA return but there has never been one in this entity.  Any suggestions?

Hi great to see you in the Community and thanks for posting! Here's a support article that should help with this:

Per this article, once a CA PTE prepayment election is made in a prior year, Lacerte automatically assumes the client will want to make the same election again and rolls it forward, even if the current-year return has no CA activity. It may be worth checking Screen 37.011, California Miscellaneous Information (or the prior year's version of that screen) for a rolled-over prepayment amount or election checkbox from an earlier tax year.

If you need further assistance with this we would reach out to Lacerte Support.

Have you done a CTRL+W in 2024 to verify nothing was sourced to CA on ANY screen/instance? I imagine so, but this is weird, so I would check.

To clarify, where exactly in 2025 is this showing up (Screen/code?), and is it a “memo only” or is it showing up somewhere in the 2025 returns somewhere as paid/deducted, etc.? If memo only, I’d be tempted to ignore it and move on.

Beyond that, you’ll need to call Support because you’ll need to send it to them and have them dig into it pretty deep. That will take some time, so be patient with them to get you to a higher level tech.
