    Errors on 1095-A

    Level 1

I have a person with zero income who received a 1095-A.  It shows figures in Part III, Column A of what they paid for insurance through the marketplace.  However, both columns B and C are all zeros.  I am getting errors saying that column B should have figures in it.  I'm not sure how to fix this.  They did not get any help paying premiums - only purchased a marketplace plan.

You need to find for Column B, using  the SLCSP look up tool   You cant leave Column B empty.

fill the 1095a worksheet exactly as shown on the 1095a

if there a blanks, leave them blank. If zeros, enter the zeros…. It may create errors as you enter the info but they should clear as you move along…

ultimately your worksheet should look the same as the 1095a

If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround

Clients just got an IRS notice for that situation....1095-A showing last 3 months blank for columns B and C as they continued coverage through the marketplace all year, just stopped with the advance premium credit in Sept.  After verifying w/ them for full year coverage, I entered the SLCSP for last three months, and IRS computers having fuss about it since it 'doesn't match'.  Leaving it blank decreases the credit they were getting.

Not sure the chances of successfully getting a correct 1095-A but told clients how to explain it in their reply.

Make them go back and check the website for the additional 1095A, its happened to several of my clients, my daughter included, they only downloaded the first one showing and there was  as second one in there too!

With zero income and zero Advance credit, does the taxpayer even want to file a tax return?  There is no need to do so (unless maybe they are a legal alien that is not eligible for Medicaid).
