Does IRS have a database for s Corps?

An elderly client last filed in 2014.  He incorporated in 2015 but can't remember if he filed a 2553.  Should I file him as an S or C Corp.  Can I or his wife call the IRS and inquire if the 2553 was filed?

I would start with the first number at this link https://www.irs.gov/businesses/telephone-assistance-contacts-for-business-customers You may need a POA
