With native encryption removed from PS Basic, you could simply password protect the PDF file with a ZIP/RAR utility before sending the encrypted file and password to your client over regular email separately.

If you have access to encrypted email or secure client portal (such as Intuit Link), the PDF file can be shared with your client without additional encryption.
