Question

MD Nonresident K-1

My problem:  I have a VA resident with an estate K-1 for MD.  i need to prepare a nonresident MD return.  On the federal worksheet I have everything marked correctly for resident and nonresident.  I also have the $24K allocated as MD income separating out the VA income.   However, on the nonresident MD return it all zeros out and doesn’t recognize the $24K as MD income from the federal K-1   I am missing checking a box or something.  Can anyone help?  Hope this made sense.  Thanks.

    • Open the Federal Schedule K-1 Worksheet (for the Estate/Trust).
    • Scroll down to the specific line item where you entered the $24K (e.g., Ordinary Income, Interest, or Dividends).
    • Look immediately to the right or look for the State or St column directly attached to that income line.
    •
    • You must type or select MD in that specific state source box. If it is blank, ProSeries defaults the income to the resident state (VA) and ignores it for the nonresident return.

Thanks for the reply.  The $24K entry is on line 5, other portfolio and nonbusiness income, and  there isn’t a block to the right  on the k-1 worksheet.  I have searched everywhere for an entry to add MD but I am at a loss.  Is this a problem with the software?
