IRS Pin question

Client was missing identity protection pin and went to the IRS office. They told him it would take 3 weeks so just bring his return in to their office.

Can I still efile the state return, or does not having a pin # cause the state to be rejected?

It should be fine if the state is a standalone state.

If it's a piggyback state it won't efile, nothing to do with the IP PIN.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

Why not just have them go to the IRS website and get another one??

Had one yesterday....   @baflowers  b/c the taxpayers are in their late 80s...  @sjrcpa   NJ is a piggyback state but I paperfiled the federal  and efiled the NJ separately...  the NJ return was accepted.

Not sure, but I think the piggy back states will accept standalone I can think of circumstances where a federal return is not required but a state maybe...

If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround
