How to fix "Switch to or Retry" error?

When I try to transmit a return i keep getting the error "Switch to or Retry" error.  It finally goes but sometimes does not transmit state return.

    I have this issue all the time, I've found when it happens, its when Carbonite is updating my cloud backup files.
