How would the IRS know it's incorrect?

Do you mean different from the prior year, as in an address change?  Or something else?  NMI

If the address is incorrect, your client would want to notify the IRS asap  Otherwise, your client could miss important notices or refund check, especially if one is expected.

The fastest way to update the address is to call the IRS.  Alternatively, a F.8822 could be filed but it'd take some time for the change to be processed through the system.
