Software Bug: CA Form 540 estimated tax overpayment rolling forward incorrectly
When rolling forward a 2024 California resident return to a 2025 return, ProConnect Tax erroneously populated a $100 prior-year overpayment applied to 2025 estimated taxes on CA Form 540, Line 72. The 2024 return had $0 applied to the following year's estimates (the entire overpayment was refunded). This data carryover error resulted in an understated 2025 tax liability and triggered an FTB notice for the client.
