The following diagnostic is generating:

Per IRS Electronic Filing Specifications, only one (1) Form 8606, Nondeductible IRAs is allowed for each taxpayer. The secondary taxpayer (spouse) on this return has both a regular and an inherited Form 8606 which will keep the return from being filed electronically.

Solution:

The IRS e-file system allows only one Form 8606 per taxpayer. However, in this return, the spouse has both:

  • A regular Form 8606

  • An inherited Form 8606

This dual presence triggers the diagnostic and prevents electronic filing.
