Does ProConnect Tax work for tax preparers outside the United States?

Yes. Tax preparers can generally use ProConnect Tax outside the United States, subject to applicable sanctions and export-control restrictions. However, the software is built exclusively for U.S. federal and state tax compliance. Tax professionals are also responsible for complying with Section 7216 and other applicable privacy requirements when tax return information is disclosed to preparers located outside the United States.

How does per-return pricing work in ProConnect Tax?

With ProConnect Tax, you buy returns individually or in volume tiers, and each purchase adds to your return count for that tax year. A return counts as used when you e-file or print it.

Individual and business returns are tracked and priced separately. Each return includes federal filing plus unlimited state, multi-state, and municipal forms, as well as amended returns and extensions for that client. There’s no separate state fee.

Buying 10 or more returns upfront locks in a discounted per-return rate for the season. Per-return pricing covers the returns themselves. Each firm also needs at least one Advanced user access license to e-file or print.

What’s included in ProConnect Tax’s User Access?

ProConnect Tax's free Standard User Access lets you enter data into real tax forms for every tax form available at no cost. The catch is that Standard users can’t finalize returns. Only paid Advanced User Access unlocks:

E-filing and printing returns, plus the tax planner print function
IRS notices and transcripts
Intuit Tax Advisor for tax planning and advisory services, to create client reports
Intuit Link, to request client document
K-1 delivery management
Firm reporting

For tax year 2026, Advanced User Access costs $210 per user, capped at $2,100 for 10 or more users. Every firm needs at least one Advanced user.

What's ProConnect Tax's refund policy for unused returns after tax season ends?

ProConnect Tax doesn’t refund unused returns after the season ends, except within a 5-business-day window from your purchase or software release date. Outside that window, unused returns aren’t lost. They roll over automatically and stay usable for that same tax year for up to 3 calendar years, as long as you keep active annual User Access. For example, unused 2025 returns are usable through December 31, 2028. If you run out of credits for a past year, you can also use current-year credits to cover it.

You may use Intuit's tax preparation products and services to assist you with the preparation and electronic filing of tax returns. "Tax return information" is information that taxpayers provide in order to prepare a tax return using an Intuit tax product. The use and disclosure of tax return information is governed by Section 7216 of the Internal Revenue Code and many state codes and regulations. Intuit discloses or uses tax return information only in accordance with applicable laws, to prepare, assist in preparing, or obtain or provide services in connection with preparing tax returns.

Is ProConnect Tax compatible with Mac, Linux, and mobile devices?

Do I need an Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN) to e-file with ProConnect Tax, or is a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) alone enough?

You need an EFIN; a PTIN alone isn’t enough to e-file. Intuit requires an EFIN Application Summary or Approval Letter on file before e-filing through ProConnect Tax or any Intuit professional tax product. As part of ongoing fraud-prevention work with the IRS and states, you’ll be asked to verify your EFIN with Intuit before filing. If you’d rather paper file, that’s available too. An EFIN is only required for e-filing.

In order to e-file a return, you must have an EFIN number. Both e-file and paper filing are available.

- Intuit ProConnect tax returns:
  ProConnect tax returns: All ProConnect tax returns are purchased for a specific tax-year, meaning the taxable period from January 1 through December 31 ("Tax Year"), and are only accessible for use for such specific Tax Year. Unused tax returns can be used for the specific Tax Year purchased for up to 3 calendar years, so long as User Access is purchased for each calendar year (e.g. unused Tax Year 2025 tax returns may be used for 2025 taxes through December 31, 2028). User Access is required to access functionality in ProConnect services (sold separately). ProConnect Tax returns are credited to the Customer Account Number that purchased them and cannot be transferred to other Intuit accounts.

  Purchases of ProConnect Tax bundles for tax year 2026 between 8 AM CT on July 1, 2026, and 6:59 PM CT on Nov. 5, 2026, are eligible to receive a 30% discount off the list price for ProConnect Tax returns and a 20% discount on Quick Employer Forms. Bundles are customizable and may be eligible for other discounts depending on the customization. Bundles require a minimum of one paid User Access and must include the minimum number of returns displayed. User Access can be purchased for additional users. - User Access:
  As of January 1, 2025, ProConnect requires purchase of a separate, single user access license ("User Access") in order to e-file and print tax returns, and to access other features, including reporting, support, IRS transcripts, Intuit Link, Intuit Tax Advisor, and K-1 delivery. Each User Access license is for a single user log-in and only provides access for the purchased calendar year (e.g., Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2026). A minimum of one User Access license must be purchased together with your tax return bank. User Access can be purchased for additional users, as needed. Firms requiring 10 or more users pay a flat fee of $2,100 for User Access. User Access prices are exempt from discounts and promotions.

- Cancellation/refund policy:
  Unused tax returns and User Access purchases may only be canceled and refunded as follows: (i) if you opted to defer payment, you may request a refund until five (5) business days after your deferred payment date; or (ii) if you did not defer payment, you may request a refund within five (5) business days of the software release date for the tax year purchased or your payment date, whichever is later. No other refund requests shall be honored. Used tax returns are not refundable. After the refund period, User Access licenses are not refundable but may be assigned to other users at your firm.
