Overview
"Hosting" is another term for "in the cloud." It means that your Lacerte or ProSeries software and data are stored ("hosted") on a secure web server at a protected facility, instead of locally on your office computer. You access them over a protected internet connection rather than via your local network.
It means you're not tied down to your office to run Lacerte or ProSeries. You can access your software anywhere, anytime, and on any device connected to the internet. It’s the same Lacerte or ProSeries software you use, just in the cloud.
If you're familiar with Lacerte or ProSeries, there’s no learning curve. We personally walk you through the setup, and most practices are up and running within a few days. Hosting for Lacerte and ProSeries has the same look and feel as Lacerte and ProSeries on the desktop. If you're new to Lacerte or ProSeries, you can get up-to-speed on the tax software through the help of our Easy Start onboarding program. Access learning resources for Lacerte and ProSeries.
How it works
We encourage customers who use Hosting to remove the program from their desktop to reduce issues with data syncing. If you don't wish to remove the program entirely, we suggest removing the shortcuts so they aren't inadvertently accessed.
No, we encourage you to exclusively use your hosted environment to prevent syncing issues. You can refresh or upload data to and from the hosted environment if you need to, but it’s a manual process.
For Lacerte, your software will automatically update so you’re always up-to-date with the latest release as soon as it’s available. ProSeries has automatic nightly searches for updates, so any available updates are ready for download the next day you sign in.
We are able to host the last 10 years of tax software in our hosting environment (from the latest tax year).

Hosting for Lacerte and ProSeries is provided by Intuit, leveraging an exclusive partnership with Rightworks who's screened to help ensure your data is safe and the services you receive are of high quality. Your data is secure with industry-standard SSL-based encryption protocols at all connections, enterprise-level firewall, and antivirus protection. Additionally, anti-virus technology and multi-layer access control help protect your files and transmissions. The Hosting program will automatically back up nightly and will maintain a rolling backup for 90 days.

System requirements
- As with any internet-based service, you'll need a good-quality, fast internet connection. Hosting is subject to the availability of a reliable internet connection. See a detailed list of system requirements.
- Other environmental factors may affect your ongoing internet connection and could impact your Hosting experience. These factors could include the number of devices simultaneously streaming, the quality and speed of your WiFi network and router, and the latency levels of your connection.
IT
- No, you don't need your own local network. The internet is the only network you'll need.
- For ProSeries, you do still need a network license to have multiple users access your software in the hosted environment.
- For Lacerte, Fast Path licenses are needed for concurrent user access based on how many users are planning on accessing Hosting. Hosting is still available without corresponding Fast Path licenses, but it'll only allow one user access, per session.

Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook integration with Lacerte or ProSeries in the Hosting environment requires a Microsoft 365 license that supports Office applications. If you already have a compatible Office 365 license, such as Office 365 Apps for Enterprise, Microsoft 365 Business Premium, Office 365 for Enterprise-E3, or Office 365 for Enterprise-E5, you can bring it over on your own, or purchase a separate license through Rightworks or another provider.

The following Adobe integrations are supported: Adobe Acrobat Pro for Teams (subscription required), Adobe Acrobat Pro for Individuals (subscription required), Adobe Acrobat Standard for Teams (subscription required), Adobe Acrobat Standard for Individuals (subscription required), and Adobe Acrobat Reader (no subscription required).
To use any applications that require licenses, you’ll need to either transfer your current license or buy them separately.
Choosing a Hosting plan
Yes, if you are new to Hosting, you can purchase any plan. If you are an existing Hosting customer, you can migrate to any plan. Note: All users within a firm must be on the same plan.
Helpful tips while using Hosting
- Remember to logoff at the end of your day using the red Logoff button
- This can help prevent issues. In fact, sometimes printing issues and program errors can be resolved when you log off and then log right back in.
- How can I logoff if I can't get to the Logoff button on my desktop?
- Right-click on the Start icon. Select Shut down or Sign out, then choose Sign Out.

- If you switch from a computer using multiple monitors in Hosted to another computer using only one monitor, you may run into a situation where a program opens but you cannot see it. Many programs remember where they were the last time you closed them. After opening the program, hold down both the Windows key (lower left of the keyboard between Ctrl and Alt) and the Shift key, then use the arrow keys ↑ ↓ → ← one at a time until you see the program pop into your current screen.

- TSPrint Printer: Prompts you to choose a printer.
- TSPrint Default: Uses your local computer’s default printer in Windows.
- TSPrint Printer (OSX): Use with Macs only, prompts you to choose a printer.
- TSPrint PDF: Lets you print to PDF and save to your local computer or to Rightworks.
- This PDF printer cannot create the Lacerte Bookmarks. You can use Lacerte PDF Printer to keep the bookmarks.

- In Lacerte User Options do not select the Lacerte Tax PDF 4.5, Lacerte Tax PDF 4.0 or DMS PDF Printer within the dropdown menu as your selected printer.
- Use the print dialog within the tax program to use these print options.
- Right-click on the desktop icon you use to access the hosted environment and choose Edit.
- Click on the Local Resources tab, and in the Local devices and resources section click More.
- Check the box next to Drives then click OK.
- Click on the General tab then in the Connection settings section click Save.
- Ping the site
- Logoff or minimize your Rightworks environment and click on the Windows icon in the lower-left of your local computer.
- Type cmd then click on the Command Prompt app.
- Type ping asp.rightnetworks.com -t
- Then hit Enter on your keyboard to have it run.
- Watch this run about 5 minutes. If you see a Request timed out message, you will need your ISP (internet service provider) or IT to fix this issue.
- If you see a big spike above 150 in the time=###ms column that can also cause slowness and you should contact your ISP or IT for assistance.
- X out of this window when no longer needed.
- Continuous Ping
- Logoff or minimize your Rightworks environment and click on the Windows icon in the lower-left of your local computer
- Type powershell then click on the Windows PowerShell app.
- Paste in the following command into the Windows PowerShell app. Ping.exe -t asp.rightnetworks.com | ForEach {"{0} - {1}" -f (Get-Date),$_} | Tee C:\temp\ping.txt
- Minimize the PowerShell window and open or resume your Hosted session.
- When you notice any performance issues, bring up the PowerShell window and look for either a big spike in time=###ms column or Request timed out.
- X out of this window once you have the log results.
- A log of the session was saved to C:\temp\ping.txt. Share this log with your technical support explaining that you are experiencing slowness when you either see a spike in the time column or you see Request timed out.

- Hosting for Lacerte and ProSeries:
Hosting for Lacerte or ProSeries is a monthly subscription. Additional fees apply for the annual tax software products and add-on services. Each month, your account will be automatically charged the agreed-upon price unless and until you cancel. Cancel your subscription at any time by calling Customer Service at 1-800-933-9999 for Lacerte and 1-800-434-6818 for ProSeries during service hours, prior to your monthly renewal date. When you cancel your subscription, your access to the Hosting service will continue through the current billing cycle, and will terminate on the next billing date. Upon termination, you will have access for 15 days to retrieve your data from the hosted environment.
If payment fails during your subscription period, we will attempt to contact you and retry your payment. If the payment retry is not successful, your subscription will terminate on the 15th day. Upon termination after payment failure, you will have access for an additional 15 days to retrieve your data from the hosted environment.
If you need to add a seat or change account information, you can do so at any time by calling Customer Service at 1-800-933-9999 for Lacerte and 1-800-434-6818 for ProSeries, during service hours.
- For Lacerte:
Hosting for Intuit Lacerte is a monthly add-on subscription service. Purchase of Fast Path services for Intuit Lacerte is also required for concurrent user activity within Hosting for Intuit Lacerte. - Add-on services and integrations:

Hosting for supported versions of QuickBooks Desktop (Enterprise, Enterprise Accountant, Premier, Premier Accountant, Pro) is included in the Advanced and Premium offerings of Hosting for ProSeries Tax or Lacerte Tax. Intuit provides QuickBooks product support for three years from the time of purchase. Quickbooks Desktop integration with Lacerte or ProSeries in the hosted environment requires an existing license for QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise, Enterprise Accountant, Premier, Premier Accountant, or Pro. If you already have one of these licenses, you can bring it over on your own, or purchase a separate license through Intuit or another provider. Additional applications are also included in the Business, Advanced, and Premium offerings of Hosting for ProSeries Tax or Lacerte Tax. Applications not included in any of the Hosting offerings (Business, Advanced, or Premium) cannot be added to your hosted environment at this time. Hosting for Lacerte and ProSeries is powered by Rightworks. Contact Rightworks to contract additional third-party software.
Rightworks performs backups of all hosted data on a nightly basis and retains the back-ups for a rolling 90-day period in a protected offsite facility as an additional level of protection. Rightworks maintains robust security enhancements, including enhanced firewall protection, encryption protocols, and security audits. There is no limitation to the size of a customer's tax and business-related data back-up. Customers are responsible for verifying the integrity of hosted data at least every 90 days. Rightworks employs Snapshot technology to backup customer data. Snapshots are taken daily and then replicated to another physical Rightworks facility for Disaster Recovery. Rightworks maintains compliance with international security standards and regulations, including IRS Security Six compliance.
Rightworks uses top-tier data centers and multiple layers of redundancy within its infrastructure to provide 24x7 availability. However, availability can vary, is subject to occasional downtime, and may change without notice. Rightworks encrypts all backup files and backup tapes. Virtual desktop connections are protected via TLS with a minimum of 128-bit encryption and authentication. Each customer has a unique Rightworks virtual desktop. Access to each Intuit ProSeries or Intuit Lacerte company file is controlled at multiple layers including file access permissions. Access is locked out after multiple failed login attempts for the same user. Security features, functionality, and access are subject to change without notice as deemed necessary by Rightworks.
