Form 1116 efile error

Returns that include Form 1116 are being rejected as of 2/18.  Code: /Return/ReturnData/I.  The detail gives no line number and simply says data in the return is missing or invalid. There are no error codes on the form and there is no missing or invalid data. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Do you happen to have used "Various" as the date paid or accrued?  If so, you need to enter an actual date for e-filing purposes.

Date is entered.

Just a hunch.  What did you enter for Country to which taxes were paid or accrued?

I am having the same issue.  Correct dates are included. Nothing seems unusual with my entries.

@IntuitAustin  can you find any info on this?

Ive got a preparer here in town calling me asking if I know what this rejection is about, hes getting it too!

FWIW I had one accepted yesterday with foreign tax credit, a measly $4 on their 1099DIV, so its not all of them that are getting kicked.

@Just-Lisa-Now-  I suppose the one you have qualified for 904(j) and no F.1116 was prepared?

I am having the same problem, two returns rejected so far, both with Paid and Various for the date.

On the other hand, a return went through with Accrued and a date of 12/31/20

I am going to try to efile a "Paid" 1116 with 12/31/20 instead of Various and see what happens.

A return that had Paid and Various was rejected.

I changed the Various to 12/31/20 and it went through.

I do not know whether this is a Proseries or IRS issue (or both), but I was not aware of any change prohibiting "Various" when the method is Paid. I'd sure like some information/clarification from Intuit on this as technically 12/31/20 is not the Paid date, rather Various is more accurate.

Does anyone know if Intuit was notified and is fixing the Form 1116 reject problem?

This whole glitch regarding Form 1116 reject is getting to be a major problem for me.

My entries for the foreign tax credit are all clean and correct.

Can anyone help?

I had this issue.  Resolved when I took a look at the gross income as reported on Schedule B Dividends in the subschedule was incorrect. No idea why this would cause a reject

I have the same issue. Client has a credit carryover. I've tried paid and accrued. I also tried adding a dollar in for the current year like we do on $0 income returns. I tried reentering everything from the worksheet. Keeps getting rejected. I'd rather wait for a solution than have the client mail in considering the delays for mail in refunds in the past year.

I reported this issue on 2/24.  This is the email we received after 2 hours on the phone with "tech support".

The unexpected behavior has been reported to our engineering team for review.

It appears the Foreign Country code is not converting for e-file, taken from Form 1116 line I column A-C.

We do not have a workaround to offer at this time, a future update may be needed.

As soon as we learn more we will inform you by email with a resolution.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Afghanistan, 12/31/20.  This client owes money. The 2 that rejected using the same method have refunds. Shrug

Any foreign tax carryovers? seems like most people with the issue have carryovers.

Issue is ongoing as of 3-8-2021. My proseries is updated, I have no "various" dates, and I reentered all the carryover data.

Anyone either experiencing or able to determine how to resolve filing reject pointing to form1116. No changes to data year over year but won't go through.

Level 2
March 12, 2021

If you use the Non-Simplified AMT calculation then the "Country" will appear on the 1116 AMT form and be accepted.  I find this unacceptable where the Simplified AMT has been used on previous returns.  Otherwise, do  not claim the AMT carryover and file an amended return when Turbotax fixes the problem.

Any update on the Form 1116 reject issue?  Has this been broken for three weeks?!?  Is that normal for Intuit?

I think I found the solution!

I was having the same issue, and rejected filing twice. What the error states is that "make sure you have tax paid, date...entered correctly on part 2 of the 1116 comp. worksheet. I had two columns on part 1, showing income. One for dividends, and one for Capital Gains. Pro-series wants two lines/rows to be entered in taxes paid because part-1 shows 2 columns of income/countries. I was entering all taxes paid in one column, and that was the reason it was getting rejected. I hope this helps few of you who has multiple columns of income in part 1.
