Should taxpayer file MFS or single?

Spouse moved out in 2020 did not live with taxpayer for 9 months of 2020.  Should the taxpayer file single or MFS?  They are still living apart.

file single  -  did they get divorced?

    If they are still married it's choice between MFJ or MFS or possibly HOH if they have children that lived with them and they did not live with their spouse the last 6 months of 2020.
