Try it and find out.  Does anyone at IRS know what IRS is doing this year?  They used to block refunds to accounts with an EIN -- presumably you are asking about a refund going to an estate account, not to the decedent's closed account.  The Commissioner has been ordered to facilitate electronic payments to reduce the number of paper checks.  But there is no Commissioner.

When filing the final return, the 1310 asks about the person filing.

  • If it is an "other" person (box C), it is just a person with a bank account that can be used.
  • If you select court appointed and attach the paperwork, you can have the check deposited into their bank account and then they can move it to the estate.

You will not get a match between the estate account and the personal representative so I doubt under the name matching rules it would deposit. A long wait for a check is most likely.
