If you open the VA return and click the Yellow Exclamation Point button on the top toolbar and type  AMEND into the search box of the Help screen, I think it explains it.

Check the Amended box at the bottom of the information first page. Then make the corrections, and send Form 760 by mail, attach to it Form 1040X and all attachments. Compare the bottom tax owed /or refund with the original, that's the only way you can tell how big a check to attach, or how much of additional refund will eventually arrive.
