Does Proseries offer an API option or line-to-line import functionality? It seems as though while API functionality is widespread in most industries, such is not the case with professional tax software and haven't been able to locate any professional software that offers any such functionality beyond basic reporting access?

Lacerte actually offers e-organizer that can be proforma'ed as an alternative to paper organizers. You have the ability to approve or reject your client's entries but that's a task on its own (and could be a pain, depending on the quality of your clients' input).

I'm not aware of any professional tax products that officially offer tax preparers the ability, out of the box, to map and bridge data using their own applications.

I'm not aware of any official API but more than a decade ago back when I was working with Big 4, they did have dedicated teams that built bridges to export data to proforma their own proprietary electronic organizers and to import data that were mapped line-by-line to each input screens, both for GoSystem RS and ProSystem Fx. That technology actually improved and evolved over a good number of years.

The built-in functionalities in tax software seem to be very limited, mostly for FAM and Trial Balance. You'd probably need quite a bit of resources and proprietary knowledge of the database structure, etc., to do anything more and to keep up with their development each year.

Thank you. That's exactly what I'd like to do is map in data from our organizer/workpapers into the tax software line-by-line. Are you aware of any such software that supports this functionality? Thanks!
