Extension status

Hi, all,

I filed a federal extension, which was accepted, then accidentally filed it again thinking it would piggyback an Oregon extension payment. Instead, the second extension failed. Now the status on my client page shows "failed transmission" in red. Is there any way to force the client page to show "accepted" again so I am not constantly reminded of my foolish mistake (in my defense, I trusted AI...mea culpa)?

Thanks, Michael

Ah, I see. I would create a copy of the file (CTRL+C on the Client screen) and test it out on the duplicate (the duplicate should also copy your efile history). Then if you see it work right, delete your whole copy file and then do it on the live file. If you can't cherry pick deleting the failed one, I'd either decide to live with it or call Support (but only let them touch and troubleshoot the copied file).

You wrote "client page"; are talking about the display?   What specific display setting are you wishing to change?

I am sure they mean the main "clients" tab in that tax type module. They likely have a column for extension e-file status that now says angrily in red "failed transmission" when that is not in fact the case... It was simply the second transmission that was not validated because it was unnecessary.

Sort of. You can't force over an "Accepted" transmission, but you can delete the failed attempt. "E-File" menu > "e-file Support Tools" > "Clear Return" > "Extension" and select "OR."

Thank you, Karl,

It's actually the federal extension that shows the Failed Transmission status which I would like to remove. If I clear extensions, will it also clear the accepted status, which I still would like to appear in place of Failed Transmission?
