You won't have an ETIN because you do not transmit directly to the IRS. Intuit has an ETIN since it is the direct transmitter. Individual users of the software don't have ETINs.
An ETIN is an Electronic Transmitter Identification Number. To be a transmitter of electronic files, one must apply with the IRS, stating they are a transmitter and pass IRS compliance testing.
For example, Thomson Reuters is a transmitter; and therefore, would receive an ETIN. As a user of our software, you should not receive an ETIN, because you are not a transmitter of electronically filed returns, but rather an Electronic Return Originator (ERO). Hence, if you received an ETIN, you should contact the IRS at 866-255-0654 and have them update your records.
