Is there a way to recover a ETIN?

An ETIN is the 5 digit number sent from IRS associated with your EFIN.  It is needed for transmitting 94X to IRS though Intuit.

You won't have an ETIN because you do not transmit directly to the IRS. Intuit has an ETIN since it is the direct transmitter. Individual users of the software don't have ETINs.

This is from the Thomson Reuters website:

An ETIN is an Electronic Transmitter Identification Number. To be a transmitter of electronic files, one must apply with the IRS, stating they are a transmitter and pass IRS compliance testing.

For example, Thomson Reuters is a transmitter; and therefore, would receive an ETIN. As a user of our software, you should not receive an ETIN, because you are not a transmitter of electronically filed returns, but rather an Electronic Return Originator (ERO). Hence, if you received an ETIN, you should contact the IRS at 866-255-0654 and have them update your records.

I think OP is talking about business payroll returns, not income tax returns.  And you do need your own ETIN to file those electronically even if thru Intuit.  Maybe OP can move this to quickbooks questions if that is the case.

My question was in regards to efiling 94x. Yes, it is transmitted to Intuit, and Intuit sends to IRS.  The instructions for "reporting agent" indicates "a separate letter containing your 5-digit Reporting Agent PIN" being sent from IRS;.... after receiving notice from IRS that one has been accepted to participate in the IRS efile Program.  I have not received this separate letter with the 5 digit Reporting Agent PIN.

I don't efile 94x reports, so I'll defer to those who know more about this. I do agree with George4Tacks' recommendation to call the efile help desk. They actually do answer the phone and will go out of their way to help and find solutions for all things efiling. That's if they're still open on Monday what with the Schumer Shutdown and all.

Thank you for responses over the weekend.  E Services Help desk was the answer, after the ordeal of getting through to them.  Apparently on the EFIN application, not only do you need to apply to e-file the 94x series, but there is a separate application area for "reporting agents".  The agent did this for me, I just need to log in and finish the "pending" submission process.  Then......it appears a 5 digit number will be issued and mailed for use with Intuit.

Thanks, again,
Helen

I would start with the help desk https://www.irs.gov/e-file-providers/e-help-desk-for-tax-professionals
