ProSeries, Federal 1040 software "Attach PDF File..." is not working

ProSeries, Federal 1040 software "Attach PDF File..." is not working today.  I have used the "Attach PDF File..." feature on previous returns without a problem.  Today the PDF will not attach.  Is this a program bug after the last ProSeries 1040 update?

@IntuitGabi  I can "Attach PDF Files..." in the ProSeries Iowa state software just fine.  But, I cannot "Attach PDF Files..." in the ProSeries 1040 software.

Can the other ProSeries Professional1040 software users on this board please run a test trial using their 2023 ProSeries 1040 software program to see if you are able to attach a PDF?

From the E-File pulldown menu; "Attach PDF Files..."; "Add Attachment"

Then report back here if you are able or are unable to complete a PDF Attachment.

Thank you for your assistance.

Be sure not to use the word form in the description of the pdf you are attaching IE: you are attaching form 1116. In the description just use 1116 not form 1116.

Seems to work fine for me.  Restarted the program since the issue began?

Hello @The_AntiTax_Man  did you already reach out to our support team to have them take a look into this for you?

@Just-Lisa-Now-  Yes, I did a "Refresh Updates" and restarted ProSeries, but it did not solve the problem.

"Seems to work fine for me."  When was your last ProSeries Update?  Are you on Auto Updates? Or, do you Update manually?

@Intuit_Ruben  Yes, I called Intuit Support and got low level support.  I had already tried most of what she suggested that I try.  She is not allowed to escalate to higher level Support.  I thanked her for her time and got the case number:

Date: 2024-10-21
Agent: Precious
Case Number: ******

Can you get me into contact with a higher level of support?

ok, so where does it get "stuck" at?  You choose a PDF but nothing happens?  How large is the file size?   What are you attaching, does it really need to be attached (a human doesnt view the attached files)?

Hi,

Are you trying to attach pdf to a 1040 federal or any specific 1040 state.

Did you try from ef center as well as open return..?

@Just-Lisa-Now-   From the E-File pull down menu, select Attach PDF Files..., this will take you to the ProSeries Attach PDF Files dialog box.  From the dialog box select Add Attachment, this will take you to the Browse for File dialog box, highlight the file that you want to attach to the return, then click on Open. This takes you back to the ProSeries Attach PDF Files dialog box.  But the file does not show up under Attachment. I am unable to attach a pdf file to the return.

This was previously working fine during the entire filing season. It stopped working during the last week.  I am able attach a pdf file to this client's Iowa 1040 return, so it is working in the PS Iowa module.

The pdf file is small, a one page tax form, and during this filing season I have attached the very same tax form to ten plus other 1040 returns without fail.  By comparison the pdf that I attached to this client's Iowa return is 5 pages and it attached without fail.

And, yes, this form does need to be attached to the e-filed return.

@BhumaL  I am unable to attach a pdf in the PS23 Federal 1040 module.  I am able to attach a pdf in the PS23 Iowa module for the same client.

The result is the same, the pdf fails to attach from within the open client return and it fails from the EF Center.

Upon further testing I am NOT able to attach a pdf to other clients returns in the PS23 Federal 1040 module.

Weird, I tried it on both my home and office system, no problems.  Just for fun, have you tried renaming the file then tried to attach it, I know Terry mentioned something abut a filename.

@Just-Lisa-Now-  Thank you for checking this out on your system as it helped to rule out some possibilities and narrowed down the cause of my problem.

It turns out that the problem was not with the PS23 1040 tax software.  The problem was that the pdf that I was trying to attach to the client's return had become corrupted.  I have never experienced a corrupted pdf in the past, so I did not consider it as a possibility.

Thank you @IntuitGabi  for having an experienced Intuit troubleshooter call me to help solve the problem over the phone.  I did not catch his name, but he is the real deal!
