I got my GED from the MAD SvS academy. ALFRED E. was the Dean and signed my degree in tax theory and global economic subversion
So for all of you who have been following this today, I am on a chat with tech support now with an issue with the 172/1045s. I kept thinking my brain has quit working and I'm doing something wrong. We've been on for an hour now, and she just told me I did enter it in correctly and that they are escalating my case up the chain. Been there done that, but I am thankful she is still with me instead of saying "ah, just send it."
I don't even think that MY death will bring an end to the stupid questions.
I can watch the local deer herd destroy my trees and the turkey rafter (more like a gang or a posse, sometimes up to 20+ of the dirty birds) gobble through MY dinner.
I can do a mean "gobble" of my own, drawing them into my trap.
I see you in there!
Just wanted to say a big Thank you to those of you I feel like is a friend. You all make the tax season so much brighter the more I age. I hope you know how much I really appreciate you all and hope the rest of the year brings only the best to all of you and maybe even some fireball. Thanks for all the help you have given me. I tried to find the really old message that showed the names but I could not and I wouldn't dare list them on the last day of tax season for fear of leaving someone out you all know I just stay too tired!
Hopefully you can get a good nights rest so you won’t be quite so tired tomorrow. It’s always nice dealing with people that appreciate the other people that spend time trying to help out other folks here. I’ve been MIA here lately so I’ve missed some of the last minute excitement about overtime and tips ———— even though those questions really haven’t changed much since January. So anyway, congratulations to those that survived another tax season. For those that didn’t survive………… never mind, they aren’t going to be reading this anyway.
I love the call that comes in 2 days after April 15th - I hope you had time to rest... I have a question about ....
Really, when did I rest? I am lucky I can still speak. Leave me alone for more than two days!!! Clients are selfish and say they appreciate you... but do they really?
I have a good one! Took April 16th off, after I came in and did 3 payrolls early in the morning. Leaving town and I have a client on my Ring camera showing up at my office. Really!!! I sent him a message that read, Do you really think I am open the day after the tax deadline HAHA! Of course no response, but yes everyone cares about themselves only
During tax season the standard client line is ...................... I know you are really busy ------ but --------. Doesn't the "but" negate the fact that I'm really busy? Just a note to tax preparers out there. If a client finally pushes you over the edge and you didn't learn enough from Dateline on how to hide the bodies, just make sure you have a real jury of your peers ------- other tax preparers on the jury. The jury won't need more than 30 seconds to announce "not guilty".
We close 5pm on 4/15 PERIOD FULL STOP. I used to stay around and work for another week or so then take a break. After 35-some-odd years I now closed the door for 2 weeks. 4/16 until I know I can come back and not want to kill someone. No phone, no email - if it wasn't important to you before 4/15 it can now wait until I get back. Had a client ask me why I closed at 5pm on the last day of tax season. . . . . . . and I was still nice when I answered them. LOL.
"Had a client ask me why I closed at 5pm on the last day of tax season"
I would have told them, good point. Next year we are closing at 5pm on April 14th.
The problem these days is the fact that you can't escape clients. If you ever make the mistake of returning a phone call with a cell phone, they lock that number into their phone and now they think you are available 24/7 for all of their life threatening tax emergencies.
The problem these days is the fact that you can't escape clients.
Your observation rings true with me but with every problem there are solutions, right?
What are your ideas?
yesterday, I got a call from a guy asking for my service. He sounds nice and would likely appreciate me. But I don't need more clients. I will not respond because my "job" is to be happy, not nice. It's a small thing, but I'm not at everyone's service and I don't need to feel that I must respond to everyone.
I'm not sure not responding is the way to go. On my Home Page on my website and on my Online Appointment Scheduler I note that I'm not accepting new individual tax clients. Then if people call, email etc. I inform them of that. I also tell them (outside of tax season) to check back later in the year to see if there any openings.
I also would call him back and say you aren't accepting any new clients at this time. I did that a number of times this year. I hate if someone leaves me hanging so I would never do that to anybody else. A polite thanks, but no thanks, is much more appreciated than ignoring somebody. You never can tell when you might cross paths again and it is better to be remembered for being polite than being remembered as "you were the jerk that never got back to me."
Had a potential client message me and ask if I am set up to do CA S-Corp tax returns, yesterday. I politely answered, " S-Corp tax returns were due 3-15-2026" My office is done with tax season this year! Thank you
We should all have Jim's contact information so that we can refer the work to Jim.
