Form 4136 is passing final review in ProSeries but the return(s) are rejecting.
I have the same issue. I've tried filling in the information in Part I, "Information about your business" and that didn't help either. I'm sure the last update messed something up with the form.
Same issues as everyone else. Form 4136 appears ready but keeps getting rejected. I have filled everything out imaginable on the form 4136 yet it rejects every time. No help from Intuit and deadline is Monday. What is the timeline to have this fixed??????
After the update every single return in my program suddenly has a 4136 even the ones which were previously filed successfully which never had a 4136 included. I called ProSeries directly and was told to "try again tomorrow" but not offered any certainty it would be fixed.
We're having the same issue.
Same issue here, too. And, am wondering when this will be fixed.
Preparers who use Ultra Tax are filing returns with 4136 without a problem.
Thank you for sharing that with me/us.
@IntuitKate forms availability shows 4136 ready for print and efile. Lots of posts to the contrary. Any chance of checking the issue and letting us know?
Thanks
Same issue, e-file rejections. Return Rejected says “Data in the return is missing or invalid. Please double check your entries. Review entries on Form 4136, Credit for Federal Tax Paid on Fuels, correct all errors.” I cannot find any errors, all data is entered and the return passes the final review.
Do you know of a "work around"?!?
I have not found a work-around and by the other comments I don't believe anyone else has either. I can't find that Intuit is working on a patch or update but I certainly hope they are. I have the same issue with F172 that has not been approved yet.
Same issue here. Everything passes final review. Anyone have a work around or know when this will be fixed?
No quick zoom button at the top of form to access schedule?
IRS does not explain the problem or reason for rejection adequately.
I am having the same issue so I am having my clients sign the Form 1040 in case it is not ready to go my March 2nd (Farmers) so I can take the returns to the post office to get postmarked on March 2nd. ProSeries is having way way too many issues this year and I am about ready to go to Drake. At least if it has problems, it is way cheaper so I will be paying less for having problems. I have also found out that Form 172 is also not available. Last year we had to prepare it outside of the program and attach it as a PDF which, although required some additional time, worked. This year, if i attach it, the program will still not let me e-file the return.
I was on the phone with Intuit for quite sometime. She told me they are aware but have no idea how long before a fix. They are suggesting mailing in returns. My clients that are owing tax due I will mail if not fixed by Monday. But the clients getting large refunds will not like that solution. Who knows how long before their refunds will come. So I am going to take off the 4136 and efile federal and states and then do an amendment once the matter is resolved. I worry about loosing clients over this. ( I do think it is an Intuit issue not federal).
Hi @Skylane our team is looking into this. @kwperry I've added you to the current investigation so you will receive email status updates.
We are researching Efile Reeject - "TotalFuelTaxCreditAmt' must be equal to Form 4136. If you are having another unexpected behavior on this form, please contact support. Our support specialists need a formal ticket, a clear summary of the topic and a client case file to investigate the behavior you're seeing. They have the tools to determine if it’s a quick fix, a change in instructions, a new unexpected behavior or one we’re already reviewing.
Reporting it through the proper channel ensures your specific case gets documented and addressed by the people who can fix it.
Help us help you by heading over to ProSeries Support so we can take a closer look!
@IntuitKate I would appreciate being added to the Form 4136 issue to get status updates. I have the same problem....rejected and I tried everything I could to fix!! We have until Monday and it's not possible for me to get a form 1040 signed as the taxpayer is out of the state!
Hi @Flinders I've added you to receive status updates via email.
I think I am going to extend their return and pay the tax owed via EFT and file them once the form(s) have all been approved. I have informed the clients that their tax due will be withdrawn March 2nd (farm returns) anyway so it won't be an inconvenience and shouldn't come as a surprise to them. In the meantime I will inform the farm clients with a refund of the situation so they're not wondering why their return has not been filed yet.
I would like to be added to the list as well. We are getting the same reject information as everyone else.
Hi @jsaum You've been added you to the list as well.
I would like to be added as well.
please update when this is fixed we have tried everything possible to get it fixed on our end and still getting rejected. The postage costs and extra paper used should be billed to Intuit!
@Michelle46 I've added you as well.
Not to mention all the down time dealing with this.
HI @IntuitKate
Please add me to this list also. My farmers are jumping up and down calling me every day to see if the problem has been fixed. Thank you very, very much!!
I would like to be added to the list as well. Below is the reject information from my returns. None of my clients are trying to claim a LP fuel credit. I tried to put zeros on those lines to see if the return would be accepted, but that didn't work either. There are no errors on the Form 4136 when running Final Review.
Return Rejected by Taxing Authority
Error/Return/ReturnData/IRS4136/NontxLiquefiedPetroleumGasGrp/CreditRT: Data in the return is missing or invalid. Please double check your entries.
Review entries on Form 4136, Credit for Federal Tax Paid on Fuels, correct all errors. On each row, if an entry has been made in any column, review all columns to ensure that the row has been properly completed. Make the appropriate change(s) and re-submit this return for electronic filing. If the reject continues, you will need to print this return and file by mail.
This is the exact error we are getting. The clients do not have any LP for credit.
Please add me to the list.
Yes, the same rejection messages. “Code: Return/ReturnData/IRS4136/NontxLiquefiedPetrol” Description: (/Return/ReturnData/IRS4136/NontxLiquefiedPetroleumGasGrp/CreditRt)”
All my 4136 returns have been "received by Intuit". Have not been rejected. Have been there since yesterday at 6:00 pm.
Would you please add me @achristmaspresent as well, I have the same issues, several out of area clients that usually electronically sign and a few set up for automatic withdrawal. Also, for those that are filed and their return is pending.... do we just have them mail in the voucher? This is beyond stressful!
add me to list please
same rejection issue here with Form 4136 - called proseries 3 times this past week, 3rd time the agent found where there is an investigation #146405 on the issue - she could not provide timeline to resolve the issue. looks like print and file return with 8948
extremely frustrating...
also experienced same heartburn with form 172...
is this just a proseries issue? I have been with Proseries since 2013 but am growing very tired of the yearly hiccups
@jkelsey "I think I am going to extend their return and pay the tax owed via EFT and file them once the form(s) have all been approved."
The March 1 (this year, March 2) date is only allowed when the return is filed by that date. If you just want to make a payment with no return, that was due on January 31. It only had to be 2/3 of the estimated tax.
ES penalty doesn't have a "reasonable cause" exception for abatement. But how much are we talking about here? Example: your farmer return shows tax due of $24,000. It was paid March 2, without a return. Instead, a $16,000 payment could have been made on January 31. So a month, at 7% annual rate, on $16K is $93. They don't send notices (at least to nonfarmers) for less than $100. So it's worth the try. But how does IRS know that 2/3 of gross income is from farming? Is there a box to check, other than on the 2210-F? And if you file that, do you have to pay the penalty even if less than $100?
The reason I believe this will work is because I have the return completed and ready to file (it would be filed if not for this issue) so I know that the amount of tax due is 100% of what they will owe. I had the same issue with form 172 in 2025 for 2024 returns and used this method and it worked fine. I don't recall all of the different amounts owed by the clients, but I do feel that since I know it's 100% of the tax it will avoid penalties. (The last I checked form 172 is not scheduled to be ready to e-file until March 4th, which poses an issue for another handful of my clients.
Assuming the software is "fixed" sooner than later so I can file the return the payment will have been received on March 2nd, because I'm using EFT for them, so farmer or not, the payment date will be deemed the 2nd.
March 2, 2026 Deadline: Qualifying farmers who did not make a January 15 estimated tax payment can avoid all underpayment penalties by filing their return and paying in full by March 2, 2026
I have the same problem. I e-filed them Friday and they have not been accepted or rejected by the IRS. Just says received by intuit. I hope I have an update by tomorrow, so I know what to do with these returns that are not yet accepted by the IRS or State.
Please add me.
How hard would it be to switch ProSeries client's info to Drake software?
I talked to pro series Saturday and they had a big ? on when form 4136 problem would be fixed!
Not too hard. Drake has good conversion software for ProSeries, but double check any depreciation items after converting. We started using Drake for entities a few years ago because we couldn't justify the cost of ProSeries' unlimited entity software, and their pay-per-return prices are ridiculous. Drake is easy to use. We never have e-file reject problems like this Form 4136 issue. IRS acceptances are also returned much faster on Drake, and they do not compete with us or expose electronic files to additional risks by selling their software to the general public. We've considered converting our Form 1041 clients as well, but ProSeries handles depreciation better. Some of our farm clients have a pretty long list of equipment, so we are still using both.
