Throughout season, I've had this weird printing problem -- on about Page 20 of many returns (especially those including California Forms 540), the returns start printing only portions of each page. I will get the basic text of a given page's form, but all of the data input onto it just doesn't print out. I have to close Acrobat and reopen it, and print only a few pages (sometimes just ONE) at a time. And every now and then, I have to completely restart the computer to clear the problem.
I've called Proseries help, and they say no-one else has reported the problem. I've spoken to Brother (I have a laser MFC-L5850DW), and they correctly point out that the printer is not experiencing any problems with any other documents besides my tax returns created in Proseries.
I've ended up wasting a LOT of paper, having these "zombie pages" print out half-full. It's been a real drag, and I never had this problem any other year.
Lots of people seem to have oddball printing issues, many people Print to PDF first then print a hard copy from the PDF....do the PDFs also have missing parts ?
I always print to PDF first. The PDFs on screen have everything they should. Something just breaks down between the PDF and the printer. Again, it especially seems to happen as the print job hits the pages of a California return.
I've never, ever had this happen before, and I've been using Proseries since 1998.
Here's a sample -- the form is still there, but it's like the data has just been left out.

Thanks. I'll check it out.
That happens occasionally on some state returns I don't regularly prepare. California, Ohio, New York. The data is there, but the text of the form comes out looking like hieroglyphics. I print the defective pages one at a time. Next time maybe I'll try the pdf solution. Also using a Brother printer.
