Latest update to the ProSeries Basic product changed the Residential Energy Credit worksheet. The required field to enter the QMID is not working correctly. As instructed I have entered a code as LNLN and it is a valid code from the manufacturer. Yet the software displays an error that the code is not valid and does not follow the nomenclature. I suspect this error will prevent transmission unless I override.
Was this new update fully tested as it pertains to this QMID field?
Hi @RLCTriad Thanks for posting in the Community about the QMID code not working with the latest Update. We will give this to support for review.
There is a dollar amount entered on line 22 and the code entered on line 23 is I7Q6 which I obtained from the vendor as required. I attempted to upload a screenshot of the worksheet but was unable to.
Hi @RLCTriad Thanks so much for the added information. bringing this to our attention and for trying to add a screenshot of it. This has been reported to Development.
Hi @RLCTriad,
Wanted to send you an update about the error message when using the QMID code. This will be resolved in an update in the near future.
Thank you,
Kathi
Hi @RLCTriad Thanks for letting us know! Have a great tax season.
Kathy,
(edited message, issue resolved)
Manufactuer Weil-Mclain had incorrect code in some of their materials. A database of the codes showed the code was not 46H2 but was V6H2 matching needed format.
There is still an issue, I filed my own taxes and received letter from IRS stating the one or more of my codes were not good, but they are, now I have to send them via fax, snail mail, or IRS website with the correct codes, buy my codes are good. I am not sure if its an intuit issue or IRA?? I believe it is intuit, due to the new error with trying to file tax returns with form 5695, saying unable to file until 3/6. Anyone having issues??
Thank You
I just had my personal return containing energy credit for new furnace and A/C rejected after waiting 12 weeks. The code I put on the return is a valid code from the manufacture's website. Can anyone tell us what the IRS considers a valid code to obtain the energy credit? This is a new requirement for the 2025 tax year and I suspect the IRS is ill-equipped to process it correctly.
For now, I have lost the $1,200 in tax credit and would like to know what the IRS is expecting since I have already given them the four-digit code on the return.
The issue is not with ProSeries and my return did contain the correct format and passed Final Review and was successfully transmitted. However, the IRS rejected the energy credits after an 8-week review cycle and I suspect they are rejecting the manufacturer code anyway as the justification. I should receive the written notice next week with their supposed explanation. However, reading many of the threads on this issue, the problem is with the IRS and not Intuit.
I am asking for insight into what the IRS is expecting with these manufacturing codes and are they using their own table of "approved" codes and rejecting all others.
Here’s an AI reply… no idea if it’s valid
The manufacturer code mentioned in the AI response is exactly the one I used from the Goodman website. I plan to push back on the IRS once I receive the official rejection notice. I appreciate your help with the possible explanation for the IRS problem.
Any updates on this? The return I e-filed with I7Q6 (with an uppercase eye), was accepted, but the client didn't receive their refund. Instead they received a letter from the IRS saying the QMID was missing or incomplete and to submit a Form 5695 with the applicable QMID. Do I just fax the same Form 5695 and hope that a "person" can interpret it better than the computer did with the original e-file?
The IRS notified me that my refund has been corrected to a payment due and when I remove the energy tax credit from the filed return I reach the same amount. The IRS is sending me a letter explanation and to be mailed 4/13. I expect I will need to respond to the letter disputing their assessment and plan to include the approved code from the manufacturer website.
I will update this thread once I receive the official letter and my plans to dispute their elimination of the energy credit. If true, that the IRS computers are not correctly processing these codes, I plan to include that explanation in my written response.
Stay tuned...
Yes. We are seeing the IRS sending out letters when valid QMID and there does seem to be a pattern. In your response, you will need to provide the 5695 again. I would circle the QMID so a person can see it and verify it is accurate.
In addition, I would add the IRS approved manufacturer from Qualified manufacturers - Home energy credits
Along with any proof for the QMID. Maybe double check, find QMID.
I haven't heard of any responses from the letters yet but valid QMID seems like an easy defense. Good luck!

That is almost certainly Intuit's fault.
The IRS clearly stated how to deal with QMIDs with an "I" or an "O", but Intuit ignored that and didn't let its users know that we had to do a work-around with an attachment. You may consider filing a claim against Intuit.
