I finally received the notice from the IRS and found its explanation insufficient for denying the energy tax credit. The letter states -

'We made the following correction(s) to your return.
We adjusted the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit you claimed on Form 5695, Residential Energy Credits. You either calculated the credit incorrectly or indicated you were ineligible for a credit."

Neither of those statements is accurate as my return shows the valid manufacturer code of I7Q6 on it. However, I cannot ascertain if Intuit failed to transmit it on the 5695 form or the IRS computers did not correctly process the code.

I plan to issue a formal written response to the IRS notice and reject their changes. With that response, I will include printouts of the IRS Credit Qualified Manufactures list and manufactures website with the proper code displayed on both. I will also include a copy of the filed 5695 form with the acceptable code printed and highlighted on it.

An unnecessary use of my time; however, I am unable to place blame onto the IRS or Intuit with the limited information I have. I will simply have to jump through the hoops to get my energy tax credit.
