With Microsoft's announcement that Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025, we have compiled some frequently asked questions to assist you in making informed decisions for your business.
Q1. I'm looking at Windows 11 and there are a few different options. Are there any benefits to HOME, work or PRO when it comes to running ProSeries?
A1.
- Windows 11 Home: Suitable for individuals focusing on basic functionality and consumer centric features. Basic security features included.
- Windows 11 Pro: Includes all Home features plus advanced security, business management tools, and virtualization support, ideal for professionals and small businesses. Security features include BitLocker, Windows Information Protection (WIP), and Microsoft Defender Application Guard. Pro supports Hyper-V and Windows Sandbox for running virtual machines. Includes, Remove Desktop, Domain Join, and Group Policy. Increased RAM and processing power.
- Windows 11 Enterprise: Builds upon Pro features. Designed for larger organizations, offering the most advanced features, security controls, and management tools. Includes features like Device Guard and Credential Guard, as well as tools for managing large-scale deployments and updates.
Q2. Can I just upgrade my Windows 10 to Windows 11?
A2. Yes. Microsoft provides three options for installing or creating Windows 11 media including (limitations apply);
- Windows 11 Installation Assistant
- Your PC must have Windows 10, version 2004 or higher installed to run the Installation Assistant.
- Note: Windows 11 Installation Assistant doesn’t run on Arm-based PCs; it only works for x64 processors.
- Create Windows 11 Installation Media
- Note: Windows 11 media creation tool cannot be used to create installation media for Arm-based PCs; it can only create media for x64 processors.
- Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) for x64 Devices
- This option is for users that want to create a bootable installation media (USB flash drive, DVD) or create a virtual machine (.ISO file) to install Windows 11. This download is a multi-edition ISO which uses your product key to unlock the correct edition.
- Your PC must have 9 GB of free disk space to download Windows 11.
Q3. What are the differences between memory requirements for updating to Windows 11 and the memory requirements to run ProSeries?
A3. While Windows 11 indicates you need at least 8 GB of RAM (16 GB recommended), the ProSeries program’s minimum requirement is 12 GB (16 GB recommended). This information as well as additional program requirements can be reviewed below.

Q4. Will I be able to run my prior year programs on Windows 11?
A4. For the most part, this will not change. You can run 2016 on a 32 bit machine. Beginning with ProSeries 2017 all newer versions must be run on a 64 bit machine to meet the minimum memory requirement.

Q5. Are there any options available if I’m not able to upgrade to Windows 11 now?
A5. Your PC will remain operational; however, support for Windows 10 has been discontinued. After October 14, 2025, your Windows 10 device will no longer receive security updates, and Microsoft will no longer provide technical support for this version.
If you need more time before moving to a Windows 11 device, a one-year Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for $30 USD is available through Microsoft to help protect your Windows 10 device.
