Downloaded some patches for prior years and now can not open the program

Previous years were downloaded and then the State could not be transferred. Downloaded patches and now can not even open the program

If rebooting your computer didn't help, try re-installing the program.

I thought those years were dead - killed off by Intuit.  How did you download "patches"?

I couldn't install 2011 or 2012....didn't try anything earlier than that though.

Installing prior years should not impact current year (unless your computer is maxed out in memory or something like that) the different years don't "talk" to eachother.  What happens when you try to open current year?  When was the last time you restarted your computer?
