If someone passed, and some of their tax documents are in an estate, can I do their taxes in the Basic Program?

I need to know, if I can do their taxes in the Pro Series Basic Program. Not all documents are in a trust, I am confused on if I need to do this in the Pro Series Professional Program.

This would depend upon what type of return they are filing. ProSeries Basic can complete a 1040 return, even for a deceased individual. However if they need to file a 1041 or 706 then that return is not available in ProSeries Basic but can be completed in ProSeries Professional.

As a ProSeries Basic customer you automatically have pay-per-return access to download and use ProSeries Professional. You won't be charged for anything until you try to print or e-file from it.

The decedent files a normal 1040 til the date of death. Income after date of death foes on a 1041. The 1041 can be filed for the 12 months following death or fiscal year.
