Household Employer used Social Security Number and not an EIN. Return was rejected. I have asked for an EIN to no avail. Will we have to mail this return in and be late?

How was the W-2 issued?
Do you think the client does not have an EIN? It can be obtained online at irs.gov in 5-10 minutes.
The client had to go back to her employer who referred her to their accountant. They have yet to come up with the EIN. The return has been rejected and if I don't change it we will have to mail it in late.
