E-File - Already Transmitted & Accepted return to the IRS & State

Hello All. im pretty sure the answer is NO although hoping someone may have something up their sleeve.

is there any secret spot on my c drive where it happens to save a file that was already accepted by the irs/state.?

my problem is i was playing with an already efiled return ultimately deleting the spouse/filing status for 2025 to update the estimated payments to a filing single taxpayer and it auto saved before i can log out in time without saving the changes i was making just for planning purposes.  ( i have adjusted the auto save time for next time lol)

it a shocker but client told me of a finalized divorce in 2025 that he failed to mention until AFTER he received the final return from me and estimates for ty 2025. o btw im getting divorced in 2025 can you change the estimates. PIA

im importing the PDF of the prepared return as we speak which will hopefully solve my issue of not having to redo the file

I called proseries , they said there is no saved file of efiled returns anywhere on my system or theres, just reaching out here to double check that is accurate.

thanks all!

Usually if you switch over the state return, then go to exit, it will ask if you want to save or not, and you can choose NO, and the auto backup doesnt happen.

But Ive screwed myself too many times now by automatically hitting YES to save when I didnt want to, I always do a SAVE AS and add whatif to the end of the file name, uncheck the EF boxes and play with the copy, so I know the original is safe and sound.

You wont be able to import the PDF and get the whole return in there.  Sadly I think youre stuck re-doing it, unless your backup saved a copy of it after it was complete and hasnt overwritten it yet with the updated version.....I only backup once at the end of the day, so if I had the right version backed up last night and I screwed it up this morning, I can still grab that backup and restore it.

I know,  i screwed my self by not making a dummy file first. i thought i was cute and could do a what if file quickly forgetting that it is very easy to get side tracked lololol.

so you uncheck save to auto recovery file and do it manually each night? this might be my new thing!!

thank you

No, I keep auto save at 1 minute, just in case of a crash in the middle of preparation.  But I know if Im in the federal return and auto save just happened it doesnt prompt me asking if I want to save, it just does it grrrr, but if I switch over to the state before exiting it always asks and if I choose NO, auto save doesnt come into play.

I use Carbonite for automatic cloud backup and I run that after the last client of the day.  Carbonite will run in real time backing up constantly during the day, but I find it makes PS lag and hang alot, so I just pause it until Im done for the day.

I have auto-save turned off.  My surge protector also has battery backup, so I'm not worried about power failures.

My program crashed last week, just as I was finishing up a return and that autosave saved me from having to reenter everything, once I had the program open again, it popped up asking me if I wanted to restore that client file, yes please!
