Happy day...I stand before you today a shamed man. I saw a client's 1099B with 800k listed as short-term gain. I knew that the stock was inherited, and I sent the client an email pretty much saying that the financial advisors were morons to sell the stock nine days before the one year holding period. So today IATA, because inherited stock is considered long term.
Fortunately today ends in 3 minutes.
The broker statement reports it as STCG. I am on the 1099B and I have double-clicked to get to the additional info page. Am I correct that I am to simply check the box that says the holding period is wrong and that's it?

Does the software still allow you to put "Inherited" in as the acquisition date? If so I might do that too (I know they revamped Sch D a couple years ago).
