What does "Efiled Return" in the EF Status column mean? Apparently, quite often it means a return was efiled and encountered no errors but never actually went to IRS.

How is a message that is meaningless and not at all helpful worthwhile? How can we help a client if we think their return has been filed when it hasn't?

E*filed* is NOT the same as accepted.  Returns are often rejected for various reasons and you, as the preparer, need to follow up on those.

Edit - a PS user can give the specifics on how to actually implement the *best practices* of monitoring the acceptance of returns.

The return is either in the Pending tab or the Accepted Tab, and if in the Accepted Tab when you open the return the Form 9325 will be included.     I rarely pay attention to that EF Status column.
