My client can't sign up for an IRS online account to check her records because she doesn't have a credit card or any other of the verification items they require. I have researched for hours, can't get anyone at IRS on phone (of course) and don't know how to help.
Has anyone been able to get past this problem?

To set up an online account, the IRS does require some basic US financial account information to do a soft inquiry for verification. If your client doesn't have any, my understanding is that there is no way she will be able to register for an account.
If all she needs some basic information about her return, she could call the IRS. If she needs a transcript or copy of her tax return, she could call the IRS, submit a 4506 series form by mail, or authorize you to access her records/represent her.

I have been trying to setup an account for two year now. I have a mortgage - soft enquiry does not work. I have a regular VISA card, that doesn't work. I don't have any student or car loans. I guess they just don't want me to sign up after all.
I'll have to use snail-mail if in fact that still works and will not take three or so months to get to me. How frustrating this is and most of the information IRS collects upfront can't be any more secure, I don't get it.

You are not trying to help your client, using ProSeries to prepare their income tax for them as their paid professional. That means you are in the wrong place.
You seem to be lost on the internet.
You’ve come to a Peer User community for Intuit Tax Preparation products supporting tax preparation professionals using ProSeries, Proconnect and Lacerte , and you may be looking for support as an individual taxpayer. Please visit the TurboTax Help site for support.
Thanks.
The thing that worked for my husband was he used his account number from fingerhut and he now has an account.
Where did he put the Numbers in the credit card part and did he put all the numbers in?
I have a credit card and it still won't take it. It tells me they can't verify it. Really??????????
Well that's a stupid comment. When you go to reply to a post it takes you to Intuit
Yes, please don't Respond to email notifications from this forum that your topic has been updated, because you are responding to a Notification and it posts to the same forum that notified you.
You are having a discussion with this Forum and it isn't the place to discuss IRS issues. This is "peer users of ProSeries programs."
Please note; we no longer have a "lock this topic" tool to help you stop posting where things don't belong. This is on the internet, in a software users' group. It's not an IRS forum.
Sad how some people hate themselves so much that the take their frustration's of being a total loser out on other's.
"Sad how some people hate themselves so much that the take their frustration's of being a total loser out on other's."
Yes, it's true, and it doesn't have to be like this. Instead of trolling this forum, you could be helping others, but that means going to a community such as TurboTax offers general discussion topics.
This is a Software Support forum of peer user who bought ProSeries Software, Lacerte Software, and ProConnect Software.
It's sad when people who are lost on the internet ignore that someone is giving help and directions to better resources, but the trolls still want to hang out here and harass the users of the Programs in use here. Programs which cost tens of thousands of dollars, the Programs which people here are using on their jobs even now, on a Sunday, to work on their Clients' tax returns on a Sunday because of the craziness of the last minute tax law changes passed by Congress and made retroactive, creating a delay in IRS response, which creates a delay in Program providers, such as Intuit, being able to respond by the deadlines. You have people on these Program forums working together on State and Federal issues and waiting for updates to the programs they paid big money for, for the ability to submit forms that are due in the upcoming 10 days! Just how do you expect them to prepare tax returns for all the clients impacted, in that short timeframe?
Instead of finding your own Peer Community where you can be of help to others, you want to hide behind your monitor and keyboard and hang here and harass the people who are doing their jobs and hard at work to meet their clients' deadlines while they are trying to deal with this combination of professional chaos.
And so, here we are, trying to have a peer user support community for how to use the ProSeries, Lacerte and ProConnect Programs, since Intuit doesn't provide the kind of customer support you might expect by having Staff that can help, the users see their forum is interrupted by strangers that want to troll the forum.
Nicely played. That's one way to leave your mark on the world, by harassing people who are trying to do their jobs. I'm sure that makes you feel proud.
Good morning,I'm in the same situation, No luck.. Would my Disability Direct Express card work?
You are Lost on the internet. You are not using ProSeries Tax Programs, which is the community you stumbled onto here.
You want to use this IRS Link:
https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin
I have everything can you do an online account with the RAS except for the financial part I do not have a credit card how do I go about that
No one here, which is a Software Users' forum of ProSeries Tax Preparation programs, can help you. It's like you walked into a grocery store and asked us to help remodel your deck.
You are lost on the internet. The IRS controls IRS accounts.
I do have the same problem to create an account because I only used debit cards which is not accepted. But here is a suggestion, why the IRS can't accept a State ID for varification instead of making so hard on us?
"But here is a suggestion, why the IRS can't accept a State ID for varification instead of making so hard on us?"
Why not ask the IRS this question? Why are you asking strangers on a Software internet forum about something the IRS controls?
Why not go log into a Truck forum and ask them? They are just as likely to be able to help with an IRS account issue as the people here in this Software user community.
You have an attitude problem. You were very snarky with me on this forum some months ago for no reason. You don't have to talk to users that way. This must be your way to channel frustrations in life or something. Pathetic tbh.
"You don't have to talk to users that way."
The people I respond to, offering them a Redirect, are not ProSeries users. They simply wandered into an internet forum and decided they can force people who are on the job to accommodate their personal needs. If they won't use the right resources, which I offer, then they are not really trying to help themselves. They are simply screaming into the void about something no one here has any control over.
And you stated I've been rude to you in the past, but your username has no other posting associated with it. That's another example of hiding on the internet so you don't have to address real issues.
People who really want help with an IRS issue should go to an IRS webpage.
People who really want help with Software they are using professionally should go to the usergroup for that software, when the business that sold them the program has inadequate customer service.
And everyone else needs to understand that the internet is just like real life; stop trolling the people that have nothing to do with your complaint. Pay attention to the help you have been given. Act on the info that matters to you. Stop whining about things and take control.
Would my bank account number work?
Because all I use is debit cards
"Would my bank account number work?" Yes.
Go to the bank and ask for a check for your debit card. They can print one. It will have the routing number and account number for that debit card.
Now time for the snarky to the poor taxpayer that can't get the system to work! This is a forum for tax professionals to help other tax professionals with their tax problems. IRS has many contact resources - 800-TAX-1040 is the primary one. If you really hit a brick wall and can not get anywhere then try this arm of IRS https://www.irs.gov/advocate/local-taxpayer-advocate
OR hire one of us that is local to you to help you with your problem, DON'T ASK HERE.
I found this on the IRS website:
If you have questions about how to create an account, see Secure Access: How to Register for Certain Online Self-Help Tools.
Imagine that! And...it includes a section to expand, worded as:
If you have issues registering or logging in to IRS online services, try the steps below.
This is going to get especially crazy with the new advanced child credit issue requiring registration to opt out.
Please note this is a Software Users Group, and not a Tax Help portal. It's a discussion forum for how to use the ProSeries Tax Preparation program. if you are not asking about using that program, on your Computer, you are Lost on the internet.

They only way to get the refund if they don't have what there asking for would be to have the refund sent by check
Dude, chill with this. These people are just looking for an answer that is obscured within the many deficiencies of the IRS. Unable to find the answer, they are trying everything they can.
I've been a Lacerte license holder every year since 1990 and I stumbled across this thread looking for the exact same answers as the orignal poster. In my efforts to add an employee as a delegated user to my IRS e-services, the we ran into the same problem because the employee is completely debt free.
Finding IRS related answers is very, very difficult. No need to berate anyone looking for answers.
We are Chill. We also are not Responsible. We are not the IRS. The IRS changes their requirements.
