Attachments causing efile errors

Starting this thread because it seems like a general problem.  Two post yesterday.  Mine was one of them.  I will post links to both here.  Basically if I have attachments on a partnership return I get an error on the Information Worksheet that says a binary attachment is causing an efile issue and the return can't be efiled.  If I remove all of the attachments, it goes away.  If I add one back, the error is back.  Here are the 2 threads....

I have been adding other attachments with no problem.  This is the first time this season that this has occurred.  This pdf is required to be attached so not really sure what to do?

Just out of curiosity, are all of the attachments really necessary?  Other than attaching other state returns to a home state return for tax credits, it's rare that I have to add any attachments to a return.

Read the error message carefully…They usually tell you specifically what to attach… (often just  a pdf copy of a form)…. If still in doubt just attach a blank pdf and move on.

If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround

yes this is a required attachment.  New this year.  I have never had to attach a pdf for Form 3800.  If you don't attach, you have an error that indicates you need an attachment.  If you attach specifically as they request, we get the other error.

yes, i am attaching specifically as they request.  And i have tried workarounds, ie, just attaching as an "other" schedule but that does not work either.

Yes, they are.  Most of mine are attachments for the detail of capital gains & losses.  I am not going to enter all those details into ProSeries.    Thank you.

My error is not about the form you are filing.  I am not even filing that form.  These attachments are only detail of capital gains & losses.  I also indicate it as "other" in the type and  put the form and schedule number in the description column.

Btw, I am working on a trust return and just did an attachment there.  No problem.

If basis is reported to the IRS, all you need to do is enter totals and there is no need for an attachment.

I have not had a problem with any other attachments this season.  This is specific to the Form 3800 required attachment.  (which is new in 2024)

Really?

Well, I would have some that don't have basis reported also.  So, that would reduce it a lot but not entirely.  In trying to figure it out I removed ALL the attachments and the error went away.  I added one of them back and the error came back.

Hello,

The error message related to the attachment for Form 3800, part VI for corporate returns is a bug in the program that is being fixed shortly in an upcoming release.

If this message is being seen for any different attachments you have classified as "Other," please remove and reattach the file and use a description that does *not* start with the word "Form" or "Schedule."

I am preparing a return for a farmer who has a NOL.  New Form 172 is not supported by ProSeries - release date est to be 3-6-25.  Return is due 3-3-25.  E-file validation failed because of it.  Will attaching manually prepared Form 172 to the file satisfy the validation?  How do I do a pdf attachment?

Re: NOL, See this post: https://accountants.intuit.com/community/proseries-tax-discussions/discussion/what-everyone-doing-ab...

To add a PDF attachment, go to "E-file" in the top menu bar and select "Attach PDF files". You will see a drop down and can select "Other" if the form is not any of the choices listed. However, when typing in the description for your file, make sure not to use to word "Form" or "Schedule" due to IRS naming conventions.
