Anybody else having trouble e-filing their NJ individual extensions? And yes, the e-file box is checked for extensions. What am I missing?

Are you filing with balance being paid or ACH payment? Only file NJ630 if payment due… if no payment due, piggyback on federal extension and attach copy of 4864 to NJ when filing NJ1040

If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround

I always filed NJ extensions even without a payment due.  Never had a problem.  Until I just went to do one now.  NJ is not my main state (As I am from NYC), but it my second biggest, so it's not like I just have a few every year.

This question is two years old.

I knew that.

I had done a search on here for 2025 as I was trying to e-file a NJ extension that didn't have a payment,

I was always able to do that, even though it seems whoever started this thread didn't in 2023.

Hi @DTNY07 If you are still unable to file the NJ extension, I recommend contacting ProConnect Support so they can take a closer look.

The extension diidn't need a payment, so it is ok

I didn't realize that NJ didn't need extensions anymore when there isn't a payment

Apparently, that has been the case for a couple of years now.

Thanks anyway

I just learned that about PA, too.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

PA I did know that about.  While I do have more clients in NJ than PA, PA is my 4th biggest state after

NY (which is where I am), NJ and CA

Not that I do taxes in close to every state, but seems many more don't require extensions when there isn't a payment than the amount of states that do

You've been able to attach a federal extension to NJ if you didn't file a NJ extension.

It does seem new this year in Inuit's software that it won't let you file a NJ extension unless making a payment. I always liked to file the NJ extension regardless.

Hi @almstjne
Here’s a support article that may help with this:
State extension and due date information for individual returns
If you need further assistance with this we would reach out to ProConnect Support, as they can best help with your specific situation.
