Hi,
Married couple the Husband moved to MA and purchased house 5/15/2021 from TX. His only income is W2 wages from MA.
The wife stays in TX and rent, her only income is W2 from TX.
They will file Federal MFJ
MA law permits married non-residents to file their MA return as either MFJ or MFS.
So only the spouse has MA income need file MFS retun with MA, the other none resident spouse has no MA income, do not even need file MA return. Am I right?
What if I use the Federal MFJ then exclude the none spouse TX income on MA return, so file joint return on MA will have the same result?

"What if I use the Federal MFJ then exclude the none spouse TX income on MA return, so file joint return on MA will have the same result?" I don't think Mass will let you do that.
Prepare the federal MFJ. Then split into 2 returns. File Mass MFS with only his income.
She does not need to file a state return.
