Printing Shutdown - Unacceptable

MattNorrisCPA

Here is the message that I got when trying to print a 2020 return for a client to review:

"Tax year 2025 and prior year returns are not available for print or e-file while the IRS is closed for e-file. Once the IRS reopens for prior year e-filing, print and e-file will be made available for those years"

This is completely and totally unacceptable for me and my firm. I will not be using Proconnect in the future unless this printing issue is resolved immediately.

Totally agree!  I am unable to print a 2022 return because I don't have "2022 credits"  even though I have 2023, 2024 and 2025 credits and all should be able to be used for prior year returns.  This is a MAJOR system failing.

Hi @MattNorrisCPA and @MusicMama Thanks for posting in the Community and sharing the details about not being able to print. Current year credits are not available for use at the moment. Printing will be available when billing has been processed for the current tax year and e-filing will be available once the IRS opens e-filing for the tax year.

I get not being able to print current year returns, but why can't we print prior year returns?

Don't try changing the subject after Intuit has changed the subject!

I called Support. I suggest everyone does this so that they understand the huge problem this causes us. Apparently they are supposed to have the problem resolved by Friday, 1/9/2026. The issue is that your user access expired on 12/31/2025. But the new one you purchased isn't active yet either. So we are supposed to wait for Intuit's programmers to fix the issue. FYI - according to the Facebook Proconnect group this was a problem last year too. Not sure why Intuit didn't learn from that experience. Support's phone number can be found here. [Updated by Moderator - Link to ProConnect Support added] Call them.

It isn't a billing issue.  I purchased credits in December.  In fact, Intuit was happy to take another $32.45 from me today to buy another credit.  The program isn't allowing users to apply those credits to tax returns.  This is a huge problem that I now have to go explain to my client.  Not cool guys!

I called twice earlier in the week - for good measure.  They recommended posting here and on the Community Ideas user group.  Customer Service said that the software developers check the Community Ideas group.

For ProConnect Users that have 2023 and 2024 credits (unused returns already purchased) sitting in their banks, you can print 2023 and 2024 returns now respectively.  2023 credits will only work for Tax Year 2023.  2024 credits will only work for Tax Year 2024.  If you do not have any credits remaining for those years or need an older year, those require the Tax Year 2025 credits to be used.  Those credits are targeted for the week of January 12, 2026, to become active.  Once they are active, printing will be enabled for all years.

If you are unsure if you have unused credits for 2023 and 2024, you can find out by going to the purchase screen.  Click on the blue "Usage Details" link.  Once inside you can select the tax year and it will show you how many individual and/or business returns that you purchased along with how many have been used.

I am still unable to print prior year returns even with having already purchased the returns.  This is the new error message:

Printing will be available 1/12 for current and prior years when billing has been processed for the current tax year. Efiling will be available once the IRS opens efiling for the tax year. Billing processes prior to efile goes live for the current year.

We apologize for the confusion.  The billing referenced by the message is not your personal customer billing, but our internal billing that allows 2025 credits to be used.  Printing will become active on January 12, 2026, for all years.
