Importing Documents into ProConnect

If I import documents that I have scanned into "Firm Documents", they do not have the lightning bolt beside them for importing directly into the tax program.

If I import them into "Shared Documents", they do have the lightning bolt.

These are scanned from the taxpayer's original documents so I don't need to share with them.

Does anyone know why the firm documents do not have the lightning bolt?

Thanks for your help.

I can't find many specific articles explaining the use of firm documents.  I'm assuming in order to import documents, the docs need to be in Link under the shared docs tab.

This article was the best I found, still leaves a lot of questions in my opinion: Using the Client Profile in ProConnect Tax

Thanks for replying.

Shared documents is the only way of importing into the return that works for me.

But like I said I don't need to share those back to the taxpayer.

I guess I don't understand the purpose of firm documents.

Yes, the shared documents would be visible in the clients intuit link account, which I don't think would hurt anything.  I do believe the documents have to be here in order to be importable. I think you can still upload documents here without having to invite the client to Intuit link, so I think it still wouldn't hurt anything.

It appears the firm documents section is new, which is why there is not a lot or resources for it yet.  However, my understanding is it will accumulate things your firm creates for the client (ex. Transcripts, pulled through Pro Connect, or Tax plans created with Tax Advisor).

It will be interesting to follow as more resources and uses come out!  Thanks for posting the original question, hopefully it nudges ProConnect support to address it.
