If you had an 'eye' on the password block, then you can see the password you are typing incorrectly and then you will not get locked out. I was getting ready to talk to a client about their tax return and typed the password incorrectly. It wasn't till I was locked out that I noticed the 'CAPS' locked was on. Tried calling Lacerte support, with no help!
