E-file status stuck at "Sent to State"

I e-filed returns for two clients on 9/15/25 to the IRS and multiple states. All returns have been accepted by the IRS and states, EXCEPT for the state of New York. Any idea why? The NYC returns have been accepted, but the state returns for New York have not.

Go to 'myaccount' and check efile status there.   Sometimes the ack just will NOT pop up on the screen.

You have to enter the SSN/FEIN of the taxpayer.

I have been doing that also in case the acknowledgements just weren't popping up. But it is the same response. I guess it is just a waiting game. Thank you.

Good for you.... not too many folks know about that option (not even support, or Kathi@Intuit...) per a recent thread.

SOME states take forever (NY is one, I think).

You can also select the client & retrieve the ack for 'just that client'.  I can't say that has ever worked for me.

Good luck - I know the waiting game is frustrating.

It is not unusual for NY to take longer - up to a week.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

Hi @lynnk we are delighted to see you in the community and thanks for posting. To add to the conversation, we have a support article on delayed acknowledgements that may be useful for you going forward. We're not sure if your return is a Partnership, but it’s worth noting that a small about of Partnership acknowledgements have been delayed since 9/12/2025. Here is the link to the article for reference:

How to check for delayed e-file acknowledgements

Thank you, I did see that article and they are partnerships, but I've never had NY take this long before. I appreciate the responses.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Hi @Kathi_at_Intuit  - is there anyone checking to see if there is an issue with the returns/payments not being accepted from New York? It has been over 5 business days since the returns were e-filed. Just curious.

Hi @lynnk Thanks for checking in! Please continue to monitor the Knowledge Base for updates. Once the returns are on the grid, it means our team is actively working on them and has already reached out to the New York agency regarding the acknowledgements. We’ll continue working with NY until this is resolved.

Thanks Kathi. I hope you'll be able to connect with New York. In my experience, this has been the longest period of time we've waited for e-filed returns have been accepted by NY.

I’m sending in tax returns and they are getting accepted by the governmental agencies but I am not getting the acknowledgments. Mine says "Sent to CA". I was on the phone with the Lacerte 4 times for a total of eight hours and they could not solve my problem. I am not being told that my returns are being accepted. If you click on the "Sent to CA" icon, it will tell you if the return or returns have been accepted. Once you see the federal and state returns are accepted, then you can print your acceptance letter, and this will automatically trigger your federal box and state box to say "e-filed".

@davideurich

Did you log in to your account with Intuit/Lacerte & check the efile status of the returns in question.

That shows what's been accepted, even if the program won't show it.  I have several every year that I have to verify in that manner.

You can also try "Check Efile Status on just one return" under the "E-File" - altho I've never had any success with that kicking one loose.  YMMV

edit... FWIW - the CA one I filed at 8:00 pm last night had been accepted when I checked this morning.  The two I just filed 15 minutes ago haven't been accepted by CA 'yet'.
