Is it just me or did Lacerte and Intuit drop the ball on their e-file shutdown? I don't remember seeing an email, a banner, or it mentioned on their December Deadlines article that they were shutting down December 22nd instead of the 26th, like the IRS announced. Lacerte is too expensive to not have them communicating with us properly.
Not just you. We are having a similar problem, and we have reached out to Lacerte......only to discover they are closed for the Holidays. Very frustrating. We had assured our client that they met the E-file Deadline for the IRS. Hoping this is an oversight, and hoping Lacerte will be in the office Friday and allow these to go thru before 11:59AM ET. Our office will be closed Friday. Fingers crossed.
Pretty Inconsistent with IRS Deadline. when Deadline is 10/15 how come the cut off date is not a few days before . Client see that IRS cut off date is 11/26 so its difficult explaining that our Software stop transmitting on 12/22
I agree and there is no way to complain. It seems they could care less. We need to figure out something because it was terrible. I've been working 24/7 to get returns filed and I had a few where I had verbal permission and was waiting for the permission to be sent to me. I decided to just file a few days ago since I knew the IRS was stopping on 12/26. Yes terrible no notice and they closed early
Individuals used to shutdown in November and you would have to wait two months to file. Now you only have to wait one month before you can file again. If people waited almost a year to get you their stuff, I’m thinking they might be able to survive another month wait.
A quick follow-up to my previous post. I spoke to a very nice Lacerte representative(from within their efile services department) this morning. She didn't know the answer as to why our efile transmission still says "Received At Lacerte". And, at first, I was concerned there was something wrong on our side of things. There isn't. She put me on hold, and spoke to someone else in her department. She was told that LACERTE shut down their efile services on 12/22. She was also told that notifications were sent to Lacerte customers. I believe one of the comments in this stream said that if there was a Lacerte shutdown prior to the IRS shutdown, Lacerte didn't provide notice to anyone. I've spoken to our staff that's responsible for such communications here, and neither they, or anyone else here received any notice from Lacerte.
Our client in question was a Fiscal Year End of 07/31, and was on extension, and not due until 05/15/26, so we have that flexibility. However, this still should require some explanation from Lacerte to its customers. If we missed the communication, that's on us. If they didn't communicate properly to all of their customers, that's a huge disappointment.
From our firm to yours, we hope you had a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year, and a successful tax season.
For what it's worth, Intuit has a history of shutting down earlier than the IRS. For anybody that didn't see any shutdown notices, it is a good policy to reach out here or to support to verify when Intuit is going to lock the doors --------- something to keep in mind for next year. For the record, I saw that they were shutting down early but I don't recall if I saw an alert in the software or if I saw it here.
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, lesson learned for sure. It's not often we have tax returns to file at this juncture, so a Lacerte deadline never crossed our mind......just the IRS. Thanks again.
You betcha!
This article is always the best resource for efile start and stop dates: https://accountants.intuit.com/support/en-us/help-article/electronic-filing/e-file-start-stop-dates-.... It was updated in November.
There were also product notifications and at the top of the communities pages there is an information notice that says "E-file start and stop dates have been updated for this tax year. Learn more here." which links to the article above, as well. Our support was closed Christmas and the day after Christmas, however, it is open.
"There were also product notifications and at the top of the communities pages"
But not every Intuit user visits this place. As far as notifications go, so much useless junk gets put in those notifications that a lot of users just get in the habit of ignoring them.
Intuit is really good about e-mailing trying to sell customers new products and wanting customers to complete surveys, so one extra e-mail a year letting folks know about shutdown dates might be nice. And it would be even nicer if you put in the e-mail subject line that the e-mail regards shutdown dates.
Hello All,
Thanks for posting in the Community about the e-file shut down. We checked on this and Lacerte did send an in-product alert on 11/21/2025 notifying users of the shutdown. In addition, there have been Community banner notifications posted to help raise awareness of the dates. (@IRonMaN thanks for the input 😉! We do know not every Intuit user visits the Community)
For future reference, as @Intuit_Kallana pointed out, this support article is a helpful one to bookmark, as it outlines the official timelines each year:
E-file start and stop dates for federal returns
We've heard the feedback, given it to the right team and as a result, they have plans to add an additional in-product alert to help make these deadlines even more visible. We appreciate you all taking the time to raise this concern as it helps us improve how we communicate important updates going forward.
