Anyone else in a no State tax state bothered by the fact that there is not an REP category for us? The lowest price includes a state tax return when we don't have one.

It seems discriminatory and predatory to charge folks that do not have a state tax return for one.  There should be a category for Federal (1040) returns.

I wouldn't call that discriminatory or predatory.  Everyone is free to shop and compare.  There are other competitors who only offer packages that include all states (which, of course, they'd say is a good deal) and there are others who offer packages with 3 fixed states (but some will say it's not flexible).

It all depends on where your needs are, the types of returns you prepare, functions you need, your preference for navigation and input, and your budget.  Life is about compromise, as you already know.  If you happen to find a perfect solution somewhere else, congrats, or you can try negotiating with Intuit.

For a lower price point but with some compromise on control, try PTO.  You can prepare actual returns with full functionalities without charge but will just need to buy credits if you decide to print or efile.  It runs on the Lacerte engine, so the input screens would be familiar to you.

Thank you.  I did look into other softwares, but found them to be inferior.

Perhaps you should test drive PTO and see if it meets your needs.

Software that is not inferior costs more. Feel free to find a not inferior product that will sell you federal only.
