That is proper way to report the loss. The beneficiary succeeds to the loss in the final year. They pick it up on their schedule D.

I am trying to get Proconnect refund an overpayment on a Form 1040 and it keeps crediting to next year. How to fix?

Correct. The PTO organizer only lists sources - W-2, Form 1099 - from prior year with no amounts. You can add your own comments but time consuming.
