I'm sending all of my future payments in pennies. 😬
I think another executive order is stopping pennies from being made (seriously).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but currently IRS Direct Pay cannot be used by a first-time filer.
Wonder if they'll change that or make it one of the exceptions for accepting a check.
Bob K....what % of first-time filers have a balance due vs a refund ? I feel you will know this.
Jeff... how about nickels ? They cost more to make then pennies do.
My 95 year old client, who doesn't have an email address, or a cell phone - he still faxes info to me is going to be thrilled.
This is just a fundamental rule of politics. If you are elected with less than 50% of the popular vote, expand your base by issuing fiats that implement popular measures. Everyone thinks it is a great idea to tell everyone else how to interact with the US Treasury. Following the Chinese model, the next step will be to abolish joint returns, and change the filing season to March 1 through June 30.
In January, China issued new guidelines for tax administration, allowing public comments for a month before implementing them. One of these was:
Refund account: Provide a qualified domestic bank account for the tax authority to process the refund.
@sjrcpa I passed that link along to a local reporter, who turned it into a story. This is a Gannett newspaper, so it might be picked up by others nationally. So many ukazis these days, it's hard to keep up even with ones that have such a direct impact on so many people.
Here is the original Executive Order, for those who want to pass it along to their clients.
