Dependents under the age of 18 file taxes ?

I have a under 18 Dependent who worked and earned roughly 12k, he received two W2s, his mother is claiming him on her taxes? Can I add his W2 to his mom taxes ?

What do I do with the dependent under the age of 18 earned income W2?

If the W-2 was over $12,550, they need to file a return.  If it was under that amount you don't need to file a return, but you may want to if there was withholding on the wages.

If he has only earned income, he files his own return, be sure and check box that says he can be claimed as a dependent.

2021 Filing Requirements for Dependents
  • Your unearned income was more than $1,100.
  • Your earned income was more than $12,550.
  • Your gross income was more than the larger of— $1,100, or. Your earned income (up to $12,200) plus $350.

Some states would require him to file a return, for instance NYS standard deduction for dependent filing own return is $8100.00
