The itemized deductions on a tax return is > 24800. Why is the program using the standard deduction? The income is low and the taxpayers are >65 & not blind.

I've noticed that if itemized deductions are less than $300 above the standard deduction and if there's a cash charitable contribution of $300, then the program automatically takes the standard deduction so that the $300 charitable can be used above the line.
