Rental income on MD nonresident tax return ...tax not calculating?

Hello...working in Proseries Basic on a MD nonresident tax return with MD rental income.  taxpayer is a NJ resident if that makes a difference.  I cannot get the MD tax to calculate on Form 505.

Tax return seems to be calculating  a negative MD AGI of ($1,100).  MD rental income is $4,900.  The difference of $6,000 seems to be attributed to the daycare credit of $6,000 on line 6a of form 505NR.  If I plug $6,000 income into the Non-MD Income smart worksheet, the proper MD AGI of $4,900 calculates, thereby prompting the MD tax to calcuate.

What am I doing wrong?  I can't leave that $6,000 in the income smart worksheet and I don't want to override.  thanks in advance for your help.
