Hello Tax Survivors!
Can anyone help me with unlocking a file that is indicating that it is "locked by Another User".
My set-up is a Stand-Alone system as a sole practitioner. No other person uses my computer and never been connected on a network with other practitioners.
"Possible Cause".... while preparing this client's return my computer's screen suddenly appeared with a ERROR-Alert and stated it needed to shut down and Restart. Without touching keyboard, computer restarted and place me to my Login. Did the normal steps to open the tax program ProSeries Basic and immediately tried to open the same client with no success. All other open and function flawlessly.
I've rebooted PC,
Update ProSeries Basic software and also maintenance repair,
Let the PC rest overnight,
Now I'm SOL....Please help!!!!
I can't even create a new file, delete, restore, move...you name it, Nada on this file!
I would deeply appreciate your HELP on how to fix this and make go away. I'm half-way in finalizing this client which happens to be an Attorney of all things!

This worked for me:
"If the error persists, Right-click on the file and select rename. Change the file name slightly. Restore the client file."
I did it a little different from another Intuit post: I copied the file to another spot on the PC. The info suggested Desktop.
I right-clicked and changed the name to Smit1234_fixed.24i. Then copied it back to the data directory.
Home Base Maintenance in the menu brought the new FIXED file back to PS Home Base. YOU DO have to remove the original one otherwise there will be two files with the same SSN trying to e-file.
