Need advice about a confusing tax situation

Hi online community, I will appreciate your advice about this situation: We filed a MFJ return where the taxpayer was covered in the Marketplace but the spouse had her insurance at work. No dependents. When he get covered he used only his income and when we did the taxes they owed a lot. I knew later that if they would file MFS it would have been better for them, they will still owe but much less. I am thinking on amending the return but I know that it is difficult to change MFJ to MFS, it is more acceptable to change from MFS to MFJ as far as L know. I would like to know your opinions about this situation.

He should have used their joint income.

You can't switch from MFJ to MFS after the due date of the tax return, so you are too late for that.
